The last part of our trip (day 5-7 ) we rented an SUV and headed south to San Diego. The drive took about 2 hours from Disneyland to San Diego, so we decided to keep it low key for the afternoon.

We went to the San Diego Zoo. I heard wonderful things about the zoo and was really excited to see what they had to offer. We always try to make to whatever zoo is around when we travel. This zoo was large and had some unique animals like their panda bear exhibit.

We explored San Diego. Belmont Park was our first stop. It was a smaller amusement park just off the beach with a lot of souvenir shops.
Our next stop was the Old Town San Diego State Historic Park. They had a lot going on because it happened to be the same week of Dia de los Muertos (aka Day of the Dead). Dia de los Muertos is a Mexican holiday where they pray for the family members and loved ones that have died. People get their faces painted and there are tons of skulls everywhere.

Loved all the bright colors.

On day 7 we went to Sea World of San Diego. I grew up going to Sea World of San Antonio, and will say that I was a little disappointed in the San Diego park. It was smaller than expected and we finished the entire park with shows in about 5-6 hours. Kids are easy to please and Mason really enjoyed it. Disclaimer: we did got in their off season so maybe they didn’t have as much going on.
Mason was done for the afternoon.

The only thing we did on day 8 was head back home. We all needed a vacation from our vacation, but I’m grateful and blessed that we got to take our boy on a memorable vacation for his 3rd birthday. Looking forward to when we take him to Disney World.
